  a day hike at diamond head ... a few hundred steps ... a few hundred feet ... a little environmental activism ... cousin a from the waterfall hike suggested we try out diamond head if we wanted a convenient hiking spot ... we didn't expect the hawaii-type weather, though, and the heat/humidity almost took me out near the end ... but once you get up to the observation tower, the breeze definitely cools you off ... spectacular views of waikiki and honolulu ...
  on our way out, we decided to get our grub on back in historic haleiwa town ... i know we saw the sunset there earlier in the week, but we didn't have a chance to grab any of the local food ... so we stopped at a circle of roach coaches ... white shrimp, mexican, thai ... a thai roach coach ... awesome ... super spicy green curry and drunken noodles ...
so our mouths are on fire at this point so we stop at one of the many shave(d) ice places in town ... my co-worker al told me that matsumoto's is the famous one, but the line was cuh-ray-zee ... so we gave our money to their most similar competitor ... vanilla ice cream, red beans, and mango/pina colada/lychee flavored shave(d) ice ...
best desert on the island ...
  is there such a thing as too much shave(d) ice? nope, no such thing ... so after we drove back to our hotel, we hit up a joint that hooked us up w/ mango sherbet, mango chunks, condensed milk and shaved MILK ... super fluffy and not snow-cone-y at all ... there's always a street vendor handing out coupons on the main strip at kalakaua and seaside, so be sure to grab one and grab a big-ass bowl of the good stuff ...
  spam jam is the annual celebration of hawaii's unofficial state meat ... it's not like i would research this yearly event and buy plane tickets months in advance to attend ... not at all ... but they bust out two stages of live music and local food joints set up tents to vend some spam-inspired dishes ...
we snagged spam nachos ... spam loco moco (rice, spam, egg, gravy) ... and spam and noodles ... and i had to take a souvenir picture w/ mr. spam and the big pile of spam ...
i love you spam ... oops ... i mean i love you shirley ...
