so our third day started out with our newly-found much much-cheaper kayak adventure ... drove out to kailua bay and got a nice instructional video on how not to totally get destroyed by waves ... i'm thinking that a training wheel or two might have helped ... but we stuck it out and got in a fair amount of ocean time ...
our half-day of kayaking ended sooner than expected so we packed it up and spent the rest of the morning checking out other ocean-impaired couples trying to kayak also ... some totally rocked it like small middle-aged ladies couple ... some had a few issues like super-ripped young fancy lads couple ... some never even made it past the waves and threw up their hands in frustration like very petite man and woman couple ...
but really, you can only watch other people kayak for so long, so we broke for lunch at the local pizza joint ...
a 1/4 of a veggie pizza and a 1/4 of a quasi-mediterranean pizza ... thin and crunchy ... tasty for me ...
as we turned the corner and hit the north shore of the island, the clouds helped us out and we got some awesome views of the ocean ...
we made a short stop at one of the beaches, but it was flagged because of the crazy waves/currents and we weren't in the mood to get tossed on our heads into the sand ...
so we drove a little bit more until we hit the historic haleiwa town ... surfer central ...
waves were still pretty crazy so we hung loose at the beach and shirley made friends w/ a super-active dog ...
owner was out catching some waves, so shirley played a little ocean-fetch and that guy plowed into the waves again and again ... awesome ...
you try swimming with a big branch in your mouth ... yeah, didn't think so ...
wound down day 3 watching surfer families pound the waves ... a very relaxing ocean day ...
