raw beef, cooked beef, beef soups, beef omelettes, beef in veggies, beef salads ... pretty much anything you can think of, beef-wise ... mom says that really, this place isn't the best, but what do i know? i got a mouthful of beef and a full tummy ... and we barely broke into that catfish ... it was good though ... super-crispy skin and everything ...
and shirley and i caught the superbowl this weekend as well ...
drove up after the new year's dinner and we went for a long walk/picnic at balboa park ... lots of dogs running around which was cool ...
then we booked it over to yog-art to grab some taro frozen yogurt ... i loves me some taro ...
shirley really got into the superbowl, though the commercials, which are supposed to be interesting, were m'eh ... exciting at the end with the underdog cardinals almost winning ... if only they hadn't left so much time on the clock ...
lots of fun ...
so dineLA continues this week w/ the michelin starred water grill ... definitely a seafood-y type place, so we weren't sure that gerard wanted to try it out ... considering his penchant for land mammals ... but he insisted and we set it up ...
appetizers - i had the cured salmon ... some potato salad to top ... and fried potato chip to garnish ... little quail egg and radish slices were a nice touch ... good flavor ... everyone else got the chowder ... which was a little less thick that i would have imagined ... taste was good with the bacon and clams ... it was just the thin broth that threw me off ...
i decided to try their 'la river' cocktail ... extra dry, extra dirty ... jalapeno-stuffed olives were a plus ...
dessert was out of this world ... but i'm thinking i'm just biased because cousin john is the pastry chef at the water grill ... he prepped a sweet treat for tina's wedding ... wow'd us w/ pb&j confections for the holidays ... and rocked our socks w/ a dessert tasting at providence ... but for this meal, the red velvet pudding and marscapone ice cream was the best ... 'velvet' is the first word that comes to mind ... i've had "red velvet" cupcakes and "red velvet" cake before, but they always managed to taste like a regular cake w/ red food coloring ... nothing to sneeze at ... the red velvet pudding at the water grill? ... soft ... warm ... buttery ... chocolate-y rich ... spectacular ... then we finished of the dinner w/ tiny big mac / lemon shortbread / candied passionfruit (?) ...
