so tonight's dineLA experience has to be the best ever ... better than anything we've ever had this year or last ... gordon ramsey at the london ... one michelin star ... what does that mean? it means this place is considered better than 95% of the other restaurants reviewed in los angeles ... quite a reputation to live up to ... but i suppose we were going to find out whether or not that star was deserved ...
new members of our dineLA team joined for this special occasion ... ani and her boyfriend edgar ... i knew ani when we were little kids in cerritos elementary ... and we managed to get in touch via facebook ... is there anything facebook can't do? nope ... so we did a little 20 year reunion ...
we started w/ a bamboo shoot and quasi-custard-y amuse bouche ... delicious especially w/ the accompanying wine ... appetizer choices included an upscale cream of mushroom soup, beet salad, and rabbit w/ toast ... everything was delicious ... i can't even begin to describe the tastes and textures, but everything was perfect from the get-go ... the soup originally came as a lonely bowl w/ a small cylinder-shaped mass of chopped sauteed mushrooms ... sad ... then the server came around and topped it off w/ the creamy soup ... nice presentation ... renee wished she had a gallon of the stuff ... i ordered the rabbit dish ... pickled-ish vegetables on the left, a rabbit 'sausage' wrapped in bacon in the center, and two awesome-ly toasted slices of soft warm bread w/ a pate-ish spread on the right ... riesling to accompany the rabbit ... even the bread and butter screamed 'quality' ... bacon/rosemary bread and seaweed butter? awesome ... we didn't get the beet salad, but in hindsight, it probably would have been awesome also ... pre-dessert consisted of a rose-water, citrus-y, creamy sweet dealie which was meant to cleanse the palate ... delicious on its own ... and desserts consisted of chocolate cake w/ salted caramel ice cream, roasted banana cake-dealie and donut hole, and a custard over quince with gingerbread ice cream ... my mind is exploding w/ all the deliciousness of it all ... the paired wine for the quince dessert had quince in it ... the paired wine for the chocolate cake was a very-cherry red wine ...
the wine pairings were amazing and spot-on ...
