restaurant week continues w/ a trip to the standard in downtown LA ...
so for appetizers we had our choice of tuna crudo, portabello carpaccio, or candied bacon and egg salad ... different ... i believe the winner was the albacore crudo ...
people seemed in a steak mood tonight so they got the ribeye w/ blue-cheese-y mashed potato ... i went against the grain by ordering the chicken kiev stuffed w/ brie and accompanied by ratatouille ... i love me that movie ... and the dish turned out to be better than the steak, in my opinion ...
to finish, we ordered the roasted pear and caramel ice cream, chocolate and banana mousse w/ chocolate cake/ice cream, and the tiramisu w/ passionfruit marscapone ... hard to pick a winner among the desserts ... they all tasted great ...
i suppose the funny server quirk of the night was the result of my obsession w/ garnish ... i asked for a dirty martini, but they usually don't serve it w/ enough olives for my taste ... so i asked the server for more than a few olives ... needless to say, he helped me out ...
ivy gave the standard a well-deserved "m'eh" ... i would agree w/ her ... definitely unique decor, but the food was pretty average ... good but not great ... nothing to ooh or aah over ... but that's ok ... we were definitely full afterward ...
gerard had to head out early to work, but it turns out that the '79 kids were out to have a good time tonight ... so we headed up to the rooftop lounge to take in the downtown skyline and try out the waterbeds and heatlamps ...
it was colder on the roof than we were expecting ... it is LA after all ... too bad it's january too ...
happy restaurant-ing!
