last week was packed with fun stuff ... the hawaiians were seeing off one of their own ... for the 4th time ... vegas, parties, vegas ... and now another party ... given my past affiliation w/ the ucla hawaiians, they were gracious enough to invite me to slam down some all you can eat korean bbq ... i can't tell you how good it is to have that much meat available for grilling for only 18 bucks ...
and then we got together for a late night showing of indiana jones 4 ... how was it? ... m'eh ... sometimes, some 80's franchises should be left alone ... i think one of the main draws of indiana jones was that he was the "every man" ... a regular guy put in an extraordinary situation ... so how did the lastest entry in the franchise work out? indy is a disgruntled superhuman superhero with absolutely no worries ... no real conflict ... it doesn't do it for me ... just like how die hard 4 turned bruce willis into a superhero who couldn't lose ... special effects are one thing, but comedic monkeys and groundhogs? come on ... harrison did most of his own stunts in the first 3 movies ... it was awesome ... a sense of danger and adventure hanging off a boat or riding a horse or jumping on a tank ... but when you know indiana jones is a computer generated ragdoll flying through the air with an army of monkeys, there's something wrong w/ that ...
so shirley's come back to us for the long weekend ... drove up super early and was just in time to be the first to grab some lunchtime all you can eat korean bbq ... did i mention i ate it earlier in the week? ... i love me some korean bbq ... might as well set me up w/ a meat IV or something ... then we strolled around westwood to look for yoga mats and gold high heels ... having found neither, we cut our losses and grabbed us some $1.50 ice cream sandwiches at diddy riese ... that strawberry cheesecake ice cream rocks my socks ...
and then it was party time for richard and bdv ... both of them traveled from afar back to the motherland for a solid night of partying ... destination numero uno was elaine's pad for carpooling duty ... then we all scooted over to the little cave in highland park ... an unassuming bar with a projector for 80s movies and classic party rock ...
and drinks and drinks and drinks ... i like to think we do a good job of partying just right ... just enough drinks to get us all dancing and then just enough dancing to get us not drunk ... practice makes perfect ... but yeah i'm glad we had a huge group of people going ... rudy, william, vanessa's family ... a dozen people rocking out makes for a very fun night ...
and some people rocked out more than other ... ::cough:: shirley ::cough:: ... we danced and danced and danced ... and then some of us rested, but shirley kept dancing and dancing and dancing ... she's good at that ... given her schedule over the years, she's never really been able to party with us like we have in years past ... but now that she's come out and let loose, it was that much more fun ...
but yeah, we wound down the evening at denny's ... like usual ... a little serving drama. but i think we got our usual post-party dose of fried goodness ...
happy birthday, richard and vanessa ...
